Brainstem

This is an important structure at the base of the brain. The brainstem controls many vital bodily functions including breathing, heartbeat and the autonomic nervous sysetem.

The connection between the brain and the spinal cord is at the base of the brainstem in the region of the craniocervical junction. The primary blood supply to the brainstem is from the basilar artery.
